International Women’s Day

flip academy supports International Women's Day in celebration of women’s achievements and for progress towards women's equality. During March our theme is reading and in the annual book fair we’ve found a collection of stories about women who made history.
International Women’s Day (IWD) is marked throughout the world every year on 8 March.  The day celebrates women’s achievements – social, economic, cultural and political. The day is also about calling for action to speed up progress towards women’s equality. IWD belongs to women everywhere, it isn’t specific to any single country, group, political party or organisation. This year the campaign theme is #EachforEqual The official IWD website says of the theme:

individually, we’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions – all day, every day,

we can actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women’s achievements,

collectively, each one of us can help create a gender equal world.

This month we are focussing on reading inspired by the annual book fair taking place at the moment in Gran Via Marqués del Turia.

While browsing the stalls we came across this little gem, a collection of stories about women who made history.  Too often, women’s achievements and contributions have not been recognised, so it’s good to see books like this trying to rebalance our knowledge of history.  And for 5€ it’s a real bargain!
